There are 20 years of grant making and youth philanthropy experience between the 6 new Officers. They will be leading a record size YAC group of over 40 local youth representing the vast majority of our area high schools.
Over the course of the next year YAC will focus on grantmaking for mental health, school life and positive lifestyles for our region’s youth.
Jazmyn Thomas was a former YAC member and has returned to be an Advisor for the group this year, joining Gordon Whitney and Brenden Bell.
“As a YAC Advisor I look forward to being able to meet the next generation of change makers in our community. Hopefully, we’ll be able to equip them with skills they’ll be able to use throughout their academic and professional lives,” said Jazmyn Thomas.
Jazymn likes to be involved in her community as much as possible. Her favorite thing to do is volunteer, whether it’s making treats for first responders with her Women’s Life chapter or teaching children the importance of Juneteenth with the Port Huron Branch of the NAACP.
When reflecting on her years as a YAC member, she said that evaluating mini grants really stuck out. “I think YAC helped to equip me with the basic skills necessary to evaluate grants. Now I do it professionally for a living so my YAC experience really had a lasting impact on my life.”
We look forward to watching our youth philanthropists grow through their grantmaking and continue to make positive impacts in our community.
