
On Friday night, the Marysville Community Fund Committee turned halftime at the high school basketball game into a celebration of giving, awarding $15,000 to nine local organizations and programs during the Winter Giveaway. Adding to the excitement, $2,000 of the total was decided by a free-throw contest on the court.
“The Marysville Community Fund was created with one powerful goal: to bring our community together to invest in Marysville and provide a collective way for the people who love the community to give back to it,” said Committee Chair Nick Beadry. “And we like to do that with a little bit of fun.”
Established in 2015, the Marysville Community Fund is overseen by eight residents who draw on their local knowledge to award grants that support and strengthen the community, including those presented during the Winter Giveaway.
This year’s grantees are:
- A Beautiful Me- be-YOU Elementary Workshop Series – $500
- City of Marysville: Fire Dept. Cut-off Saw – $2,000
- Marysville High School: Powerlifting Rack – $1,000
- Marysville Lions Club: Kids Fishing Clinic – $1,000
- Marysville Public Schools: Elementary Theatre Program – $1,500
- Marysville Robotics Club: Support for High School, Middle School and Elementary Teams – $1,000
- Marysville Rotary Club: Kits for a Cause – $2,500
- Marysville United Methodist Church: Community Support Fund – $1,000
- SOS Marysville Food Pantry: Christmas Dinner – $2,500
The organizations also competed in the halftime free-throw contest and four of them walked away with additional funding totaling $2,000 to support their cause.
The Marysville Fire Department and SOS Marysville Food Pantry each won $250, Marysville Lions Club won $500 and Marysville Robotics Club won $1,000.
