It’s an exciting time for the Lelito Legacy Foundation Donor Advised Fund. Just a short time ago, NFL Offensive Lineman (New Orleans Saints & Detroit Lions) Tim Lelito had a philanthropic passion and a vision to impact kids and sports locally. He set up a donor advised fund with the Community Foundation and set a goal to endow the funds within 5 years. Not only did Tim just endow the funds, he did it 3 years ahead of his goal time frame!
An endowment fund simply means a fund that provides a permanent stream of charitable dollars for the causes Tim cares about- youth and athletics. The principal of the fund is never spent, so it will continue to grow forever.
Tim says, “ Five years ago the Lelito Legacy Foundation was still a dream, two years ago that dream was made into a reality. Within these short two years we hit our five year goal of being fully endowed. Not only is this an incredible boost of momentum for our board and staff, showcasing their commitment drive and passion, it also reiterates the type of community and support staff we have around us. Just like many of the athletes – we can’t do it alone.”
Having an endowed fund with the Community Foundation means Tim can collaborate on grants and other community leadership work. Indeed, Lelito’s Legacy Foundation has already collaborated with our community funds and school district funds all across the county to provide the first round of “pay to play” grants for local students.
“We pride ourselves in helping our community youth overcome obstacles that may prevent them from being able to participate in sporting activities. We feel very passionate about the benefits the kids receive from being involved in sports; keeping them in an positive, healthy and safe environment. That is the Legacy we want to create.” says Board President, Lisa Motte.
Like the community foundation, Tim is deeply rooted in our community and we all want to see it prosper. We are honored to be part of Tim’s personal charitable legacy in our community and appreciate his trust.
