We are happy to welcome our newest board member- Sonal Makim.
While Sonal is new to the board, she is not new to the Community Foundation. She has been involved in several committees, serving on the Grants and Blue Water Arts Committees. She has also been an active member of the Women’s initiative helping to organize their 100+ Women giving events.
Sonal is a University of Michigan grad where she receive her BS before attending Rush University College of Health Sciences (Chicago) for her Masters in Health Systems Management. She worked in consulting for Chi Systems (Ann Arbor) and then Health Strategies & Solutions mainly in Healthcare management and Clinical Programs strategic planning before taking some time off of working outside of the home to raise her three children. During that time, she was active in their schools serving as the PTO president and in many other roles for classrooms, clubs and sports. She was also active on the Say Yes to the PHASD bonds initiative to educate the community for the Port Huron Schools committee.
In the past few years, Sonal resumed working as a Market Coach/Above Restaurant Leader for her parents’ company, SOMA Enterprises, LLC, which owns and operates four Taco Bell restaurants in St. Clair County.
Sonal and her husband Raj live in Fort Gratiot with their children- their son Nishaan, a junior at University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, oldest daughter Zahra, a freshman also at U of M and their youngest daughter Amara, a freshman at PHN. Those familiar with our Youth Advisory Council (YAC) may remember Zahra, who was in YAC for four years, serving as secretary last year for her senior year.
We’re excited to have Sonal’s perspective and talents join our existing group of diverse board members as we wrap up 2020 and forge ahead into the new year.
