A $250,000 gift from the estate of former Marysville resident, Tom Andison, will benefit students at SC4 for generations to come. The planned gift has created a new endowment fund at the Community Foundation of St. Clair County.

‘Tom may not have attended SC4,” said Will Oldford, Treasurer for the Community Foundation. “Yet he appreciated the value of education provided by our community college and knew that endowed funds are the gift that gives forever.” 

Thomas K. Andison was born in Mayville, Michigan and graduated from the University of Michigan in 1955. After serving in the U.S. Army and then teaching business at Buena Vista University in Iowa, he settled in Marysville and spent the rest of his career as a stockbroker, including 20 years managing a local A.G. Edwards office. When not working, Tom was very active in the First Presbyterian Church in Port Huron, and was a long-time volunteer at both the International Symphony Orchestra and the Port Huron Museum.

“Having personally known Tom for much of my life and considering his financial background, I know he understood the value of leaving his planned gift to the Community Foundation for the benefit of SC4 students,” added Oldford.

Kirk Kramer, President of St. Clair County Community College, said, “The college greatly appreciates Tom’s foresight in planning to benefit the students at SC4. We are proud to work closely with the Community Foundation to carry out his wishes and provide support for our students.”

In recent years the Community Foundation has pressed forward in the evolution of its scholarship programs and support for young people, expanding well beyond just paying for tuition. The Foundation focuses heavily on overall college success and is innovative in its approach to supporting young adults throughout their college career, including life needs such as housing, food, and transportation.

Overall, the Community Foundation manages over 300 different endowment funds to support students, nonprofits and various focus areas in the community. In 2023, Foundation endowments and donors gave nearly $5 million back into the community.

“This planned gift from Tom Andison’s estate is another example of how our residents cherish their local educational institutions like SC4,” concluded Oldford. “And the Community Foundation is proud to help honor their philanthropic goals.”
