Steve and Emily Goudy have been gathering the community to support breast cancer patients for the past 11 years! Six years ago they started the Taking a Shot at Breast Cancer fund at the Community Foundation to help facilitate the outpouring of support they receive and to be able to grant funds back to our local hospitals.
“I remember being at a friend’s house for the Memorial Day holiday and a friend of ours was there who was being treated for breast cancer at a local hospital. She stopped us that day to say, ‘thank you,’ for what we are doing, as she saw firsthand the support we provided,” said Emily.
The community continues to rally behind the Goudy’s to support breast cancer patients and they recently added another $25,000 to the Taking a Shot at Breast Cancer Fund. Since starting their fund, $60,000 has been donated back to our local hospitals. The Goudy’s are proud to say that the latest $10,000 grant is going to Ascension River District Hospital.
Grants provided to our local hospitals help patients pay for things like mammograms, copays, deductibles, or incidentals like gas, groceries or childcare during treatment. The fund provides support to McLaren Port Huron, Lake Huron Medical Center and Ascension River District to make sure patients have less to worry about and have less of a financial burden for their care.
